Zabieg przeprowadzono u 74-letniej pacjentki ze złożoną wadą serca w postaci zwężenia i niedomykalności zastawki mitralnej oraz ciężkiego zwężenia zastawki aortalnej. Do tej pory takie złożone wady leczono otwierając klatkę piersiową. Lekarze z gdańskiego szpitala zoperowali od razu dwie zastawki wykonując tzw. małą torakotomię, czyli małe cięcie pod piersią.
Jak podkreślają specjaliści z UCK, głównymi zaletami zabiegu są szybsza rehabilitacja oraz lepsza „kosmetyka”. Pacjenci odczuwają też mniejszy ból i większy komfort.
