Mięczak zakaźny to choroba dermatologiczna, do której dochodzi na skutek zakażenia wirusem mięczaka zakaźnego (molluscum contagiosum virus – MCV). Jej objawem są małe, półprzezroczyste grudki bądź guzki, o charakterystycznym perłowym kolorze. Cechą, która wyróżnia zmiany przy mięczaku zakaźnym jest zagłębienie w ich centralnej części.
Niekiedy grudkom/ guzkom może towarzyszyć świąd bądź minimalna tkliwość. Zmiany skórne przy tej chorobie mogą wylęgać się w ciągu od tygodnia do nawet sześciu miesięcy. Najczęściej są widoczne już po 2-3 miesiącach.
Początkowo pęcherzyki są niewielkie, wielkości główki szpilki. Ich rozmiar zmienia się z czasem. Kilka tygodni później mierzą zazwyczaj ok. 3-5 mm, a niekiedy już 1-2 cm. U pacjentów, którzy nie podjęli leczenia wykwitów, mogą się one utrzymywać nawet ok. 2-4 miesiące.
Grudki te mogą wystąpić w okolicach narządów płciowych
Na wystąpienie wykwitów w okolicach narządów płciowych narażone są głównie osoby dorosłe. U mężczyzn najczęściej lokalizują się na skórze członka, natomiast u kobiet na wzgórku łonowym, owłosionej części warg sromowych, a także wewnętrznej i górnej powierzchni ud.
Niezależnie od płci, grudki bądź guzki wywołane wirusem mięczaka zakaźnego mogą pojawić się również na pośladkach, w szparze pośladkowej oraz w pachwinach. Wirus ten przenosi się zarówno drogą kontaktów płciowych, jak również podczas bezpośredniego kontaktu skóra do skóry z osobą zakażoną mięczakiem zakaźnym.
