– To absolutna nowość. Nie dość, że wykorzystaliśmy do jej budowy innowacyjny polimer, to jeszcze udało nam się połączyć go z pszczelim propolisem, związkiem o leczniczych właściwościach – zaznaczył prof. Paweł Olczyk z SUM, członek zespołu, który pracował nad wynalazkiem.
Nić z której możliwe jest stworzenie takiego opatrunku została opracowana przez naukowców ze Śląskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego (SUM) oraz Centrum Materiałów Polimerowych i Węglowych Polskiej Akademii Nauk.
Z jakich materiałów został stworzony opatrunek?
W opracowaniu innowacyjnego opatrunku najważniejsze dla naukowców były takie elementy, jak odpowiednio dobrany polimer (związek chemiczny mający postać długiego łańcucha powtarzających się elementów) oraz związek o działaniu leczniczym.
Dlatego w swojej pracy naukowcy wykorzystali polilaktydo koglikolid, czyli materiał, którego technologią wytwarzania i przetwórstwa zajmuje się prof. Janusz Kasperczyk (członek zespołu). Wśród głównych korzyści polilaktydo-koglikolidu wymienić należy biozgodność oraz biodegradowalność. Biozgodność powoduje, że opatrunek nie wywołuje podrażnień, ponieważ polilaktydo koglikolid rozkłada się na substancje metabolizowane przez organizm, takie jak kwas glikolowy i kwas mlekowy.
– Z naszego punktu widzenia to pożądany bonus. Sam kwas mlekowy nie leczy, lecz zakwasza środowisko w ranie, tym samym utrudniając życie drobnoustrojów – wyjaśnił prof. Olczyk.
Drugim elementem nowatorskiego opatrunku jest propolis, czyli związek, który ma działanie lecznicze. Dzięki badaniom prof. Olczyka nad propolisem, w których wzięły udział cztery świnie wykazano, że posmarowanie ran oparzeniowych maścią propolisową przyspieszało gojenie.

Jak doszło do połączenia propolisu z polimerem?
Nad połączeniem polimeru z propolisem pracował zespół prof. Kasperczyka. Wykorzystując technologię elektroprzędzenia opracowano nić, a w konsekwencji włókninę.
Urządzenie to m.in. strzykawka, w której znajduje się płynny polimer z propolisem. Kropka, która wypływa z igły strzykawki pod wpływem pola elektromagnetycznego przyjmuje postać nici o mikroskopijnej średnicy (rzędu nanometrów, czyli bilionowych części metra). Ta z kolei gromadzi się na odbiorniku zwanym kolektorem, z którego następnie naukowcy zwijają włókninę, którą po sterylizacji będzie można nałożyć na rany.
– Chcemy także wykorzystać zmodyfikowaną technikę elektroprzędzenia, abyśmy mogli mieć splecione ze sobą trzy nici – jedna z propolisem, druga z insuliną, a trzecia z antybiotykiem. Insulina to stary sposób pielęgniarek na trudne rany oparzeniowe, bo pobudza wzrost komórek. W ten sposób będziemy mogli podejść do ran oparzeniowych naprawdę kompleksowo – tłumaczy prof. Olczyk.
Aby produkt trafił na rynek niezbędne będą jeszcze dalsze badania. W związku z tym naukowcy liczą, że uczelnia podejmie współpracę z partnerem biznesowym, który pomoże wdrożyć produkt. Naukowcy mają w planach również opracowanie nici z wplecionym jadem pszczelim, dzięki któremu możliwe będzie leczenie efektu popromiennego, m.in. u pacjentów onkologicznych po naświetleniach.
