Naukowcy z Instytutu Polimerów i Barwników PŁ biorą udział w międzynarodowym projekcie „Antyutleniające, elektroaktywne i biobójcze samoprzylegające materiały opatrunkowe”. Celem inicjatywy jest stworzenie opatrunku na rany, który wspomaga proces gojenia i uwalnia peptydy przeciwdrobnoustrojowe.
Projekt realizowany jest przez naukowców z Wydziału Chemicznego i Międzynarodowego Centrum Badań Innowacyjnych Biomateriałów (ICRI-BioM) Politechniki Łódzkiej, Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Lublinie, Ulm University w Niemczech, koordynatora strony niemieckiej, oraz Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research w Niemczech. Polskie zespoły otrzymały 2,4 mln zł środków w ramach projektu OPUS + LAP, finansowanego przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki oraz niemiecką organizację finansującą badania DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), w oparciu o procedurę agencji wiodącej.
Wspomaganie procesu gojenia i działanie przeciwdrobnoustrojowe
Celem projektu jest opracowanie przeciwutleniającego i elektroaktywnego opatrunku na rany, który będzie wspomagał proces gojenia, a także uwalniał peptydy przeciwdrobnoustrojowe przeciw grupie głównych patogenów bakteryjnych i grzybiczych, które mają znaczenie w zakażeniach szpitalnych.
Jak podkreśla dr hab. inż. Joanna Pietrasik, profesor na Wydziale Chemicznym i lider projektu z PŁ, po raz pierwszy w nowatorskiej strategii połączone zostaną trzy indywidualne koncepcje stosowane w przygotowaniu materiałów opatrunkowych, tj. polimery inteligentne reagujące na bodźce zewnętrzne, aktywne nanowarstwy oraz peptydy uwalniane z nowego materiału kompozytowego, jako ostatnia opcja ochrony przeciwbakteryjnej przeciwko opornym patogenom.
Projekt został podzielony na cztery zadania badawcze. Działania realizowane na PŁ, jak informuje liderka projektu na Politechnice Łódzkiej, dotyczą syntezy odpowiednich żeli, w tym sieci wzajemnie przenikających się, odpowiadających na zmiany temperatury oraz zdolnych do uwalniania w odpowiednich warunkach protonów.
– Pozwoli to na regulację pH środowiska. Otrzymane żele będą stanowiły warstwę, na której immobilizowane będą cienkie warstwy polimerów antyutleniających i przewodzących wraz z wybranymi peptydami – dodaje ekspertka.

Nowe koncepcje leczenia trudno gojących się ran
– Rany stały się jednym z głównych globalnych problemów, które prowadzą do śmierci człowieka. Ostra rana to uraz skóry, który łatwo goi się w przewidywalnym i oczekiwanym czasie. Natomiast rany przewlekłe powstają na skutek przedłużającej się fazy zapalnej podczas procesu gojenia, co w konsekwencji uniemożliwia regenerację skóry. Z tego powodu dużą uwagę poświęca się opatrunkom dedykowanym ranom, które są w stanie nie tylko chronić je przed wpływem środowiska, ale także wspomagają regenerację skóry i przyspieszają proces ich gojenia – wyjaśnia prof. Pietrasik.
Ekspertka dodaje, że zaprojektowany w ramach projektu materiał otworzy nowe kierunki dla opatrunków następnej generacji dostosowanych do potrzeb różnych rodzajów ran i zwalczania zakażeń, a tym samym przyczyni się do nowych koncepcji leczenia, które znacznie poprawią proces gojenia się ran.
