Naukowcy z Uniwersytetu w Edynburgu analizom poddali łącznie 492 pacjentów, którzy przeszli operację chirurgiczną jamy brzusznej. Z 223 uczestnikami badania kontaktowano się w trzecim, siódmym i piętnastym dniu od zabiegu. Pacjentów poproszono o wypełnienie ankiety internetowej, w której zapytano o stan rany i wszelkie objawy, których doświadczali. Następnie uczestnikom polecono zrobienie zdjęcia rany i przesłanie go do specjalisty za pomocą bezpiecznej strony internetowej. 269 osób z drugiej grupy badanych pacjentów poddano rutynowej opiece pooperacyjnej.

W grupie robiącej zdjęcia i wypełniającej ankiety, naukowcy odkryli, że infekcja była czterokrotnie częściej diagnozowana, niż w grupie kontrolnej. Zdaniem badaczy takie rozwiązanie może pomóc w zarządzaniu opieką nad pacjentami chirurgicznymi podczas ich powrotu do zdrowia, a także odciążyć system opieki zdrowotnej.

Zespół badaczy prowadzi obecnie dalsze badania, by ustalić, jak to rozwiązanie najlepiej wdrożyć w praktyce u pacjentów chirurgicznych. Naukowcy chcą również wykorzystać w tym celu sztuczną inteligencję.

Technologia mobilna w obserwacji pacjentów po operacjach

– Nasze badanie pokazuje korzyści płynące z wykorzystania technologii mobilnej do obserwacji po operacji. Rekonwalescencja może być dla każdego niespokojnym czasem.
