Może mieć charakter umiarkowany lub ciężki. Obecnie atopowe zapalenie skóry leczy się objawowo z zastosowaniem leków regenerujących chorą skórę. Chorym najczęściej zaleca się emolienty, kremy natłuszczające lub sterydowe.
Wykazano skuteczność upadacitinibu w 3 fazach badań
Łącznie w 3 fazach badań irlandzkich naukowców udział wzięło 1,6 tys. uczestników, którzy doświadczyli ciężkiego lub umiarkowanego atopowego zapalenia skóry. Skuteczność preparatu przetestowano z wykorzystaniem metody podwójnie ślepej próby. W pierwszych fazach badań wykazano, że 30 mg, 15 mg lub 7,5 mg preparatu podawanego raz na dobę dało większą poprawę w zakresie świądu i zmian skórnych w porównaniu z podaniem placebo. W czasie badań pacjenci wskazywali, że upadacitinib zmniejszył świąd skórny, a swędzenie nie wybudzało pacjentów w nocy.
Dodatkowa opcja leczenia atopowego zapalenia skóry
Naukowcy podkreślają, że to odkrycie może zmienić standardy opieki nad pacjentami, a także zwiększyć skuteczność leczenia tego schorzenia.
– Wyniki badań są niezwykle zachęcające i mamy nadzieję, że już wkrótce zaoferujemy pacjentom dodatkową opcję leczenia – wskazuje prof. Alan Irvine, główny badacz ze School of Medicine w Trinity College.
Upadacitinib został zatwierdzony przez amerykańską Agencję Żywności i Leków (FDA) w sierpniu 2019 r., natomiast w październiku 2019 r. przez Europejską Agencję Leków jako preparat do leczenia reumatoidalnego zapalenia stawów o średniej lub wysokiej aktywności.
