Eksperci: wstępne wyniki badań są zachęcające

Produkt leczniczy, który potencjalnie może służyć leczeniu stopy cukrzycowej zaprojektowany, opracowany i wytworzony został w Laboratorium Badawczym – Banku Komórek Warszawskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego pod kierunkiem prof. Małgorzaty Lewandowskiej-Szumieł. Głównym badaczem jest dr hab. Beata Mrozikiewicz-Rakowska z Kliniki Diabetologii i Chorób Wewnętrznych UCK WUM, kierowanej przez prof. Leszka Czupryniaka. Projekt, realizowany w konsorcjum z Uniwersytetem Łódzkim, uwzględnia poszukiwanie mechanizmów i działania aplikowanych komórek z zastosowaniem metod multiomicznych. Badanie kliniczne zostanie przeprowadzone dwuośrodkowo.

Eksperci podkreślają, że wstępne wyniki badań nad produktem uzyskane w Laboratorium LBBK i Kliniki w ramach pilotażowego eksperymentu leczniczego są zachęcające. Podczas analiz podawano preparat tego typu w otwartej, tj. niezaślepionej obserwacji bez randomizacji.

Odkrycie może wpłynąć na zmniejszenie liczby amputacji kończyn w wyniku ZSC

Zespół stopy cukrzycowej (ZSC) jest powikłaniem cukrzycy, które rozwija się zazwyczaj w wyniku utrzymujących się wysokich cukrów we krwi. – Opieka nad pacjentem z ZSC wymaga sprawnego działania multidyscyplinarnego zespołu, złożonego z doświadczonych diabetologów, chirurgów, ortopedów, radiologów interwencyjnych, pielęgniarek i fizjoterapeutów. Niejednokrotnie, pomimo podejmowanych wysiłków, leczenie kończy się niepowodzeniem, wymagającym amputacji kończyny. Szacuje się, że w krajach rozwiniętych ZSC zajmuje pierwsze miejsce wśród powodów nieurazowych amputacji kończyn dolnych. Na tle 31 krajów europejskich, Polska plasuje się na 10 miejscu – podkreślają badacze WUM.

W Polsce, w 2015 r., przeprowadzono 1 795 amputacji kończyny w wyniku powikłań cukrzycy. Wdrożenie leczenia na wczesnym etapie rozwoju ZSC mogłoby zapobiec amputacjom. Dlatego, jak wskazują eksperci, tak istotne jest opracowanie skutecznego sposobu leczenia pacjentów z tym schorzeniem, by przyspieszyć gojenie się ran, a także zredukować powikłania infekcyjne.
